My passion for drawing and painting started early. My parents, both being artists, meant I was surrounded by creativity.
I was consumed by drawing people, faces in particular.
When I attended my first life drawing class at the age of 17 a light went on and I realised that this is what I wanted my art to be about.
Later I began a career in graphics, storyboarding and illustration. Now residing in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, more of my time is spent doing what I love most – drawing and painting people. My art practice includes working with pastels, inks, gouache and most recently oils.
I have always loved using pastels as I am able to quickly capture the spirit and mood of the pose. Working on an artwork for days and weeks on end is not me - I love the discipline of short poses: a subject who will only remain in the pose for a finite amount of time gives me quite a charge. This sense of immediacy has flowed into my oil portraits.
I work alla prima style with lush brush strokes. Working quickly in an expressive and gestural style with a limited palette to capture mood, form and light.
